A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as sparing holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Each year, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
