Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete

The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and were in communication with the NFL.

The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.

Police Reports Currently Not on File

No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver was absent for the initial part of this season following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals hurt. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.

On the field, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
