Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further activity:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
