Fans eagerly awaiting the launch of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined can get a head start the full month. A highly anticipated playable preview is set to release on January 7th, offering a substantial glimpse into the game's initial chapters. Notably, all save data earned within this demo will be able to be imported directly into the complete game upon its February release.

More Than a Straightforward Remake: The Thorough Transformation

This project is a from-scratch re-envisioning of the seminal 2000 role-playing game, initially titled Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a notable departure from recent series remakes, like the recently released HD-2D iterations, this remake adopts a unique 3D art style. The world have been crafted to look like detailed dioramas, with party members sporting a delightful toy-like design.

"Considering the 3DS remake, the narrative was still notoriously extended. Consequently, the team came to a conclusion that we wanted to streamline the story, [and] make this adventure for modern players."

Significant Mechanical Changes & Modernizations

The development team has implemented several changes to streamline the original experience. This encompasses:

• Quick Field Encounters: Similar to modern role-playing games, low-level foes are now defeated directly on the field eliminating the need for initiating a separate turn-based combat screen.
• Adjustable Battle Pace: Players can accelerate battle sequences to quickly get past easier encounters.
• Expanded Job Mechanics: One brand new character role was created for this remake. Additionally, characters gain the ability to master a second job, significantly expanding customization options.

These refinements seek to address one of the 2000 title's common points of feedback: its immense playtime. The initial main quest could easily require over 100 hours to see through. The new version was expressly reworked to enhance flow and reduce perceived repetition.
